ridiculous… they are complaining why?
CNN.com - Asians poorly represented on TV - May 2, 2005
i don’t understand this. do people really want television to be an accurate reflection of reality? besides are asians really going to complain that they have a problem with being represented on television only in dramas that are set in professional environments, that they are portrayed as intelligent and hard-working? yes, that’s not a complete picture of asians as a group, but come on, it’s not like they are portraying crap identities. i get the impression that if there were “asian” sitcoms these people would be complaining that it made asians too slap-sticky, etc. and believe me, i watch more than my fair share of television, i’ve never once felt like this:
“From the viewpoint of individuals who are Asian Americans, (the low representation) says, ‘I don’t matter — I don’t see people who look like me, my culture, my community,”‘ said Cristina Pieraccini, a professor of communications at the State University of New York at Oswego.
i don’t know about other asian-americans, but i don’t tend to rate my self-worth: personally, culturally, or with regard to my community from whether or not i see asians on television.
