cell phones

But the direction does seem to be moving toward Mr. Negroponte’s “family of devices,” cellphones tailored for specific uses. A person might have three or four phones, all with the same number, which can be used one at a time, a service now available in some European markets. A person might use a music-centered cellphone with headphones while jogging or shopping, an office-productivity phone for e-mail and taking notes on business trip, and a very stylish phone for evenings.

this is what i want. very much. this is what i thought i’d get when i moved to gsm phones with the sim card. but since every manufacturer stores contact info a little differently, it’s not super practical. plus, usually the sim is in a not terribly convenient place (under the battery). they should put the sim somewhere where it’s accessible. so you could change out phones with ease. i have no problem with buying multiple phones for specific purposes (though i don’t think i’d get a workout phone bc that’s annoying, but a “sport activity” phone that was sturdy, water resistant, etc would be welcomed), but have to make it easier on the user to take advantage of it.
