okay, normally i don’t enjoy skip bayless. i don’t know why. but do i really need a coherent reason? regardless, i thought this was an interesting, not really talked about view of the whole van gundy controversy. what kind of favors has van gundy gotten over the years from the friendly ref? not that this sort of thing doesn’t happen so much. i mean you breathe on michael jordan it’s a foul. reggie miller is the KING of drawing the phantom foul. but it’s still worth considering in this context.
one other thought about conspiracies, etc. with all the conspiracy theories that surround the nba, you know to a small degree it both loves and hates that two second round matchups are the ideal: pistons-pacers (i don’t care how bad they think the brawl was, it will bring in viewers) and suns-mavs (nash, the fresh mvp, against his former team after a mildly acrimonious departure from dallas). i mean they must hate that there might even be hints of more conspiracies now, but they must love it because (1) the storylines are legit interesting and (2) because at least some people will find the conspiracy theories intriguing enough to be interested in the nba more so now than they were before.
third, how the nba must HATE that of the 4 second round matches, two are going to be complete duds. the heat will demolish the wiz. the spurs will own the sonics (especially if ray and radmon can’t get back at least close to full strength).
fourth, mcgrady was more than admirable this year. especially the latter part of the season and the playoffs. i mean beyond him and yao, the rest of the team only made 6 baskets in the last game, and mcgrady didn’t even play the 4th. and no, i don’t think he’s a loser or anything like that (KG lost in the first round 7 times before advancing, and no one pegged him as a loser, well not full-fledged loser wrt the playoffs). and yes, mcgrady did about as much as he could. but what happened to the days when a “star” player could almost single-handedly will a team to a win? mcgrady couldn’t, as hard as he tried. dirk didn’t, though he was sick (but of course everyone remembers MJ’s flu game, the image of pippen holding him up walking off the court is ALWAYS replayed). haha, it’s crazy that i’m already old enough that i can at least in my mind think back to the “old days” of things. haha.
