CNN.com - Eiffel Tower parachutist killed - May 17, 2005

daredevils, suicide attempts whatever. the best part of this article is the last paragraph, which if it wasn’t lifted directly from some old report shows that the AP writers are all about the descriptions:

Franz Reichel, a mustachioed Austrian tailor, was killed leaping from the first deck in 1912 to test a tent-like parachute coat he had invented. He is said to have died of fright before hitting the ground.

“mustachioed” when was the last time anyone saw/used the word mustachioed? did they have another Franz Reichel, so they had to make the line more specific? ha.

Natalie Portman, who’s sporting a bald head for her role in the flick “Vendetta,” thinks people may misinterpret her hairless look. “People will think I’m a neo-Nazi or that I have cancer or I’m a lesbian,” she said. “After the crazy hairstyles I had to endure, it’s quite liberating.”

via msnbc.com

umm, i just get the impression that natalie’s going to catch a bit of flack from lesbians. remember the hub bub over this quote: “Sometimes I think people who are unattractive have it easier.” ah, the harvard educated ms. natalie portman. (i’m a big fan btw). but come on, you have to know that a statement about the hair that references stereotypes of various groups is going to do nothing but rile said groups up.
