CNN.com - Lottery millionaire seeks billionaire status - Jun 16, 2005

and i’m using the term star here lightly, as in reality television. lotto winners somehow are “deserving” of appearing in reality television?
this guy is taking home just around $85 million (of a $220.3 million jackpot, sorry, that’s still a lot of money, but they need to find a way to up that a bit, though he got $125.3 million from lump sum, then taxes hit, so whatevs) and this is one of the things he’s thinking about (other than buying a bike, not a motorcycle, an actual bike, which can actually be quite a bit of money):

“[he’s] considering appearances on a reality television program”

um, i think the article is a little off point

A Wobbly GinĂ³bili Is Seeking His Bounce - New York Times

yes manu had a terrible game in game 3. yes the pistons upped their defensive intensity across the board. but let’s be honest, a big part of it was also his injury. he def was a step slow last game and it showed. hopefully he’ll be fine tonight because manu seriously is indispensable to the spurs.

since when does this matter?

Your Cake and Slather It on, Too - New York Times

Scientific evidence to back up this premise is lacking and some doctors are skeptical that it ever will come along.

there will NEVER be a science behind the product, just behind the marketing. you are catering to a crowd that would buy seal placenta and smear it on their face at $900/ounce if they thought it made their skin look better. speaking of which, i’m off to find some ridiculously cheap things which i can charge ridiculous amounts for people to slather on their face in the hopes of regaining youth. i need something easy to get. dog poop maybe. i put dog poop on some rich old woman’s face, the next day flatter her and tell her how RADIANT she looks, then start charging her $900/ounce for my special secret formula of dog poop and shampoo.

jobs is great, he like made everything great

‘You’ve got to find what you love,’ Jobs says

this is a transcript of steve jobs’s (btw, this is a COMPLETE tangent, which is a big no no in the blog/post rules, but i can’t stand the convention of a simple apostrophe for a possessive noun that ends in “s”) commencement speech at standford from this year. “find what you love” - yeah, great advice there steve-o. like we don’t already know that. the hard part is finding out what you love and finding a way to have that make a living for you. his suggestion:

I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

umm, yeah.

btw, don’t you LOVE the grandiosity that is jobs? he is single handedly claiming responsibility for FONTS! yes, ladies and gentlemen you can thank your lucky stars that steve jobs took a calligraphy class so we could all enjoy fonts. because regardless of the concept that fonts existed in the printed media and undoubtedly would’ve been incorporated into the electronic media, it’s all because stevie took a class:

If I had never dropped in on that single course in college, the Mac would have never had multiple typefaces or proportionally spaced fonts. And since Windows just copied the Mac, its likely that no personal computer would have them. If I had never dropped out, I would have never dropped in on this calligraphy class, and personal computers might not have the wonderful typography that they do.

all that being said, good for jobs. it was a great speech. and i didn’t even see/hear it. just the transcript. i’m a fan of oratory. i’m not super knowledgeable on it, i haven’t studied speech writing, but i enjoy it. and while a lot of it has to do with delivery, you can read a good script and know it’s a good speech regardless of delivery (or at least you can tell about the potential to be a good speech).

ewwwwwwwww
