tangy goodness

Filed under: electronics, music, technology - Just Me @ 8:00 am

So I installed tangerine and it totally kicks! I’ve started to tell everyone about it. My friend just picked up running with his new Nike+ kit (we’re currently in a tight race using the Nike+ challenge!) and I told him about it and he is all about it. As am I. All my tangerine based playlists are named “Tangy X.” I’ve only made a few, and it’s dope that they have built in profiles for different kinds of playlists (BPM rising and falling, “hills,” etc.). Though if you want to talk about party/jam mix cds, according to Barney of “How I Met Your Mother,” it should be “always rising!”

Go get tangerine, from the potion factory!

dream come true?

Filed under: electronics, music, technology - Just Me @ 4:31 pm

I’m at work so I can’t download and try this little app. But I’ve high hopes that it is what I’ve been looking for for so long. (”For for?” Can that be right?) These days I have so much new music that I set my nano to shuffle by album so I can listen to it all, but normally I shuffle all, which means I am skipping songs left and right. I hope this works as well as I want it to. Follow-up to follow once I install and try it out.

tangerine, the beat counting app!

A terabyte iPod - and other Apple predictions - Nov. 11, 2005

i’d NEVER be able to fill it. a terabyte? truthfully, unless it had hd dvr capabilities, i’d rather have other things than ungodly amounts of storage (or i could move to all AL formatted music).

not a particularly interesting article, but posting it anyways because it quoted peter rojas, editor of my favorite blog (and dream job, well i’d like to think my dream job, but who knows how much money they make over there in the WIN network) ENGADGET. if you have any interest in tech/electronics news, that’s the place to go.

data glut

Filed under: electronics, technology - Just Me @ 7:55 am

there’s an article in today’s ny times about online data storage services etc. and there was that story a few weeks back of the ridiculous amounts of pictures people keep in the digicam age. and one of the current big things in OS wars is searching (spotlight, longhorn, google desktop, etc) quickly and having less file structure, but being able to get to information quickly even if you don’t know where you saved it. all this got me thinking this morning, isn’t it just too much? i mean do we really need to keep 40 pics of 1 minutes worth of action of whatever we’re taking pictures of? and if we do, is it a good or bad thing that software companies are trying to make it so we can find things easier, at the expence of keeping things organized. i mean, my pics on my computer are in no way organized. well they are semi-organized, but not really. but is it better that i have no organization because i can rely on spotlight? or should OSes or search tools be designed to really help people by requiring more organization. because at the end of the day one of the reasons you can’t find a pic of little johnny out of the 45 gigs of pics you have on your box is because it’s all so unorganized. just a thought.

The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)

i’m not a super apple fanboy. i do like their products. i do own apple things. but i don’t bash PC unnecessarily. but maybe i just found my cellphone start up tone (the apple start up sound). i could probably make an animation of an apple start up sequence easier than i could of f1 racing (though i’m committed to that too).

peace? i hate the word…

Technology News Article | Reuters.com

throwin’ a little shakespeare around this morning. bluray v hddvd, back on. all those talks about unifiying a standard was crap. each side basically said to unify the other side basically had to die. now with talk of two competing standards for the same thing on shelves at the same time. regardless of which standard is techincally superior (bluray), it’s going to come down to 2 things: (1) which movies are on what standard and (2) pricing of equipment and movies. even in the all digital tv age and the rise of HD, not enough people are going to have good enough equipment or want to pay for the best, so as usual, whatever’s cheaper will probably win.

so sad. not that it beat out coldplay, who while overhyped i still like, but that a ringtone was released as a single and will top the charts.
